Yoga charity event raises awareness for breast cancer.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM), also referred to in America as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM), is an annual international health campaign organized by major breast cancer charities every October to increase awareness of the disease and to raise funds for research into its cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure. The campaign also offers information and support to those affected by breast cancer.

National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and since its introduction in 1993, and has been awash with pink ribbons. Nowadays it becomes a global symbol for breast cancer awareness. Breast Cancer Care was the first breast cancer charity in the UK to get involved in Breast Cancer Awareness Month and through it has helped bring the subject of breast cancer to the forefront of people’s minds and to the top of the health agenda in this country.

October Pink becomes a worldwide annual campaign involving thousands of organisations, to highlight the importance of breast awareness, education and research. During Breast Cancer Awareness Month we aim to get as many people as possible involved in raising awareness and funds for breast cancer research.

More of us are being diagnosed with breast cancer than ever before and the disease is still devastating lives on a heart-breaking scale. We can’t live with that and we’re pretty sure you can’t either. So every Breast Cancer Awareness Month we need your help, more than ever, to take action against breast cancer and create a future where everyone who develops the disease can live – and live well.

Lydia Komarnicky, MD, professor and chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology and a member of the board of the Susan G. Komen Foundation, says wearing pink “reminds people of the importance of the month of October and to get a mammogram if you have forgotten. More importantly I think the pink shirt, ribbon, hat, or merchandise of your choice honors those who have successfully beaten the disease, those who are currently battling the disease, and also reminds us of those that have succumbed to the disease.”

Yoga Charity Event reminds us to wear pink during the month of October. This simple way to let these women know they’re not alone. Furthermore, wearing pink during breast cancer awareness month shows your support for educating the public, advancing research and honoring the millions of women who have fought the disease so that one day no women will have to fight it again.
